Ruby - Birthstone for July
The birthstone for the month of July a Ruby in many cultures have long considered gems of Kings. The word Ruby comes from ‘’ruber’’ in Latin for red. A Ruby is a pinkish-red to a blood-red coloured gemstone a variety of mineral corundum. It is one of the rarest and most durable stones for jewellery. A Ruby gains its red colour due to the element chromium.
Some gemstones that are popularly or historically called rubies. Such as the ‘’Black Prince’s Ruby’’ in the British Imperial State Crown are actually Spinel’s.
